14 day Residential Dog Training
When it comes to your dogs training there is never a one size fits all solution. At Dog Guru we offer different bespoke options, to suit all needs.
Our Residential Dog Training option is an intensive training programme, conducted in house over a two week period (14 nights) at our family home Claddagh Lodge, the HQ of Dog Guru .
This programme is designed for those owners who simply do not have enough free time, or experience to train their dog or those who have tried other methods without success.
How the Residential Programme Works
Once you have secured your dates, we will forward a comprehensive questionnaire for you to complete and ask for videos of the behaviours you wish us to address. This will allow us to make a full assessment of your dog and the reasons for its behaviours and allow us to tailor the programme to suit your individual dog.
While in our care, your dog will live with us in our family home, which is a normal busy household of adults and teenagers. Your dog will be fully integrated and trained alongside our own Copperbirch Labradors and 3 cats as a member of our family pack.
We only take a few residential pupils for training at any one time, this ensures your dog gets our full attention.
Our “Calmness Leads to Reward” ® - Residential Dog Training Programme is designed to optimise your dogs learning, we manage all the normal distracting factors that contribute to your dogs high energy, excitable and sometimes problematic behaviour.
Your dogs daily training sessions are carried out over a 7 day week and will involve trips to the park, shops and the town for important calming socialisation. They will even get the opportunity to participate in our on site weekly obedience classes, giving them the opportuntiy to integrate with other dogs and their owners. We teach your dog to be calm and relaxed everywhere they go.
However its not all training, we have also built into our daily programme time for sleep, rest, play and most of all lots of evening cuddles from our human family members. Your dog will join us each evening while we are just chilling, watching a movie and relaxing in front of the fire.
Where they will rest and sleep:
During your dogs stay as well as love care and attention, we will provide the much needed daily structure and routine that all dog's crave. Resulting in a much calmer, more relaxed, happier and stress free member of your family when they return to you.
We have a special dog room set aside in our home, where your dog will enjoy their own individual space giving them the opportunity relax, switch off, chill and get an uninterrupted night sleep.
Bedtime is at 10.30 pm and at night your dog will sleep either in a crate but only if thats something they are used to or alternatively on a comfy raised dog bed.
Our in house dog room is fully equiped with all the 'mod cons' including underfloor heating. Located just a few metres and within hearing distance from our own family members bedrooms, it is fully equiped with CCTV cameras so we can fully observe your dog throughout the night.
We pride ourselves on being able to offer this totally unique, loving home from home dog training service.
positive dog training - "CALMNESS LEADS TO REWARD"
During your dog’s stay we will teach, train and communicate with them using our uniquely developed “Calmness Leads to Reward” © formula for dog training & dog behaviour..
“Calmness Leads to Reward” ® is a pioneering, innovative, positive dog training and behaviour management philosophy. Uniquely developed by Keith Mathews 'The Dog Guru' and formulated from his practical work and 30 years ongoing study of canine behaviour.
This system has proved a huge hit globally proven by the fact that not only does Keith conduct monthly training programmes in Northern Ireland, but he also delivers regular monthly workshops to other dog trainers and behaviourists in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe.
Unlike other training methods which tend to use treats with traditional conditioning methods. “Calmness Leads to Reward” ® is about reading and redirecting the energy of your dog. It's about teaching, before training and uses only positive gentle motivating methods, based on the timely consistent, reward of affection, with love, without the need for motivation using treats or gadgets.
The essence of Keith Mathews 'The Dog Guru's’ “Calmness Leads to Reward” ® methodology, is to develop human learning. So that owners become effective 'dog parents'. We teach you, the owner, how to realign your relationship with your dog and show you how to educate and communicate friendship, deep trust, and unconditional love to them. Therefore, nurturing the relationship between you both, in positive, uniquely healing, and therapeutic way.

Each of our residential dog training programmes can be tailor made to suit you and your dog’s individual requirements. We have listed below some of the areas of focus and skills your dog will learn during their 2 week stay with us.
- 6 Essential Communication Cue's: We will teach your dog the Communication Cues' of Heel, Sit/Stay, Recall, Place/Bed, the Release Cue & the Leave/No Cue.
- Calmness: We will teach your dog to be calm, relaxed and have the ability to simply just chill.
- Walking on the Leash: During the programme we will teach your dog how to walk calmly on the leash without pulling and being reactive towards people and other dogs.
- Meeting & Greeting: We will teach your dog how to be calm and in control of their own energy while meeting and greeting people both inside and outside the home without jumping up and getting over excited.
- Coming When Called: We will teach your dog how to come when called with the vocal cue and also with a dog training whistle.
- Switching Off: We will teach your dog upon your instruction how to go to a place and wait patiently in their bed or place mat should you need them to do so.
These are just a few of the standard skills and 'Communication Cues' your dog will learn while in our care combined with your own personal bespoke requirements.
During your dog’s stay we will provide you with weekly progress updates and a training video before they leave to show you their newly taught skills and how you can continue with their training.
